Election researcher Frank Aarebrot have never seen so little involvement in an election, NRK reported.
– I would actually say that it is almost so that the result should not have been made public, it is almost only to confusion. That means some hardcore neifolk participated, and the rest of the county has been indifferent, says Aarebrot.
But the result was thus published, and 74 percent said no to the merger and would rather continue existence as a separate municipality.
Mayor Geir Knutsen (Labor) believes the low turnout may be due to that citizens take it for granted that the municipality should proceed on their own.
– it may be they have taken it for granted with the backdrop of the signals we politicians have given. They have been unanimous that we should be an independent municipality in the future. (© NTB)
