The neighbors who are affected by the 22 July memorial enacted listed on Sørbråten in Hole Municipality, has filed a lawsuit to stop the artwork.
In March alerted neighbors that they would reunion state at the municipal Minister Jan Tore Sanner (H) and Culture Minister Linda Hofstad Helleland (H) unless plans to halt the controversial memorial “memory Wound”.
Lawyer Harald Stabell argued that the construction of the memorial will fight against neighbor law and inflicting neighbors health problems.
– it must be emphasized that we are not against a memorial in Hole, but we think it’s terrible that the government wants to put this in the local community who actively saved many youngsters 22 July. Many are struggling already with strong memories of that day and do not need a further reminder to remember the brutality we witnessed, according to a press release from the plaintiffs.
– We want the state to show compassion and gratitude for what our communities helped with, and accept that we must have a different position of the national memorial after 22 July 2011, they write on.
the application was sent to Ringerike District Court on Friday 24 June.
Hope they take to their senses
they write that they react to certain statements by the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development and the Ministry of Culture. In a press release from March, they have said that it was held dialogue with the plaintiffs, something they deny.
– Utstrand welfare association has never been invited to dialogue. [...] This is in stark contrast to what we were supposed to and that there would be a “new” democratic process and that there should not be any further imminent weigh, they write.
– Utstrand their plaintiffs still have a hope that government chooses to take to their senses, and instead of going to court against rescuers and neighbors on Utstrand to forcibly placing a memorial on Sørbråten. They should rather choose to implement a new process for putting in place an agreed memory location that includes all it should include and safeguards Kleiveland Committee recommendations in the report “Places and remember and be reminded.”

eternal reminder
in an interview with VG in March said the neighbors that the memorial would serve as a perpetual reminder of the massacre they were witnessed in 2011.
– We are surprised and disappointed. Minister opposes the expertise he has requested, with the report of the Norwegian Centre for Violence and Traumatic Stress Studies (NKVTS), which says that it is very unfortunate to build here because of the psychological strain it will provide, said Utøya hero Jørn Øverby in Utstrand well VG then.

He pointed out that local residents repeatedly proposed alternative locations for a national monument, such a place just up the hill from the promontory, where the memorial will not be visible from the properties, and also will get peace and quiet that visitors to the site. The view to Utøya will still be good.
– Then you should visit the memorial, instead of that memorial consult us, said Øverby.
– It is important to emphasize that we feel this physical body, not just mentally, saled Maria Holtane-Berge in Utstrand resident’s association.
– I thought we were keen to take care of each other and that solidarity and care was central in Norway . We are those who risked their own lives on 22 July, and now we feel that this is the thanks, she said.
