Traffic accident in a tunnel in Sorfold – NRK

  • Last No one was seriously injured in traffic accident, said Nordlandssykehuset to NRK at 18.36. The road is now open, after being closed for over three hours.

the road closed for several hours

It was just before 15:30 police received notice of the accident.

– It shall rotate about a head-on accident in the tunnel. We do not have any information about whether the five who were sent by air ambulance sat in the same car, said operations manager in Nordland police in Salten, Ina Selfors.

The road was closed for over three hours before it opened just after 18:30.



Seven people involved in the accident

A total of eight people were involved in the accident. Two people came from the collision without injury. The fire department has foam added cars to prevent fire. There are now long queues at the site and it is uncertain when the road might reopen.

– We are now getting picked out the involved vehicles inside the tunnel. This may take some time and it is still too early to say when the road open.

Detour via Sweden

The tunnels in Sorfold is notorious for being narrow and dark, but Kalvik tunnel will be one of the better tunnels, since the stretch is relatively straight. The tunnel is one of the oldest tunnels in the municipality and was opened in 1966.

According to Norwegian Public Roads Administration websites is the below planned upgrading in 2018 to achieve a higher level of security. The project is part of a national project involving the upgrading of all highway tunnels to tunnel safety regulations.

On this stretch of the E6 is Sweden only possible detour.
