Wildfires Oslo extinguished – NRK

The emergency services had to scramble with great strengths to Teddy Ponds in Lillomarka north of Romsås in Oslo at 12:30 pm on Wednesday after notification of wildfire.

After three and a half hours now starting the fire department to get control on fire.

Brigade Chief Gorm Sjøli says that the effects of forest fire helicopter has been very good.

– We feel that we has been turned down a good part of the flames that are in there and start getting control of the two fires, says Sjølie.

Intense fire fighting

There were two distinct fields burned by approximately 400 meters apart, in a rugged terrain directly under a high tension towers.

– We’re going to be throughout the night and morning hours. It is peat soil, and we stay there many hours yet to be convinced that the fire should not pick up, says Sjølie.

School evacuated

Bjøråsen schools in the area were evacuated due to the fire.

– It was an undramatic evacuation, said acting principal Thor Sundal NRK.

the children are sent home and guardians have been notified via SMS about what has happened.

– Also the staff at the school are sent home. The reason is that the smoke store in air conditioner at school, and it’s very tightly inside the building, said Sundal.

Residents of Romsås, Ammerud and Grorud were encouraged to keep their windows closed because of the large smoke development from the fire. Hilde Arvid Klæboe lay sleeping when she was told about the fire.

– I was awakened by my mom and felt that the smell burned. Mom said “close the windows, there is a forest fire.” When I looked out of the porch, saw the smoke at the front of the block mi.

– you do get scared off. But now I’m calm, the fire department has been very good, says Hilde Arvid Klæboe.
