The controversial proposal was submitted to Parliament by a majority of members in the energy and environment committee Tuesday last week.
The proposal applies to a trial on the Fosen peninsula and parts of Troms, where one authorizes the withdrawal of golden eagle which otherwise is totally protected in Norway. After debate in parliament Monday voted majority for the proposal.
– There is a majority note, not an official decision. But we ask that this project be continued, said Torhild Aarbergsbotten (H) to NRK.
can happen already this summer
the proposal will now be taken on to the Climate and environment Ministry. Aarbergsbotten hope that the pilot project could begin as early as this year:
– I have hope and faith in that we can achieve something this summer. If not then it must at least be next summer.
Wolf, wolverine, bear and lynx is like the golden eagle totally protected in Norway.
– But we have the management of bears and wolverines, and that’s what we want with golden eagles, says Marit Arnstad in the Center NRK.
– NINA (Norwegian inistitutt for nature research ) has documented that one has lost many grazers to golden eagles in the areas the project will be tested in, continue Arnstad.
Fears for stocks
Lars Haltbrekken, head of Friends of the Earth, is not thrilled for Parliament’s decision.
– We really hope the trial will be strictly enforced. We fear this may go beyond stocks, which we have successfully built up after it was listed, says Haltbrekken.
Kong Ørna has previously been on the Red List in Norway, but the stock has gone up since peace no in 1968.
– We realize that the reindeer have trouble eagle. But we do not think this is an effective way to solve it. It’s easy eagles that specializes in taking domesticated. That one will take out them we can agree, but in this proposal, one to trap eagles before they have done harm, says Haltbrekken.
