The police reported that a large area of Freya is on fire. The fire was reported at 22 o’clock on Tuesday night. Police have closed the county road 716 between Flatval and Skarsvåg because of the fire.
The fire brigade was quick with relatively large crews and are now fighting against the flames. Efforts manager on site reports that the area that is burning is around 300 meters long and 100 meters wide.
LATEST: clock 23.25, it was reported that the fire department claims to have the fire under control. Veins were reopened to traffic a quarter past midnight.
The wind turns
The fire rages at Skarsvåg. Situated on the west side of the island. The wind is blowing from the east, towards the sea. Front flames is far to the nearest houses and several ponds. There has been some rain in the past, but the wind makes the forest dries up quickly again.
But later in the day tomorrow the wind will rotate to the north and then to the westerly wind. West of Skarsvåg is Sistranda, center on Freya.
– It seems that fire crews have pretty good control. We hope and believe that they will stop the fire before the wind turns, said operations manager Ebbe Kimo by South Trøndelag police.
Great Fire last year
In January 2014 had many of the residents of Freya evacuated during a heath fire. It happened just after the great fire of Flatanger, where a lavspentmast struck sparks and ignited the heather. Then it was bone-dry conditions and strong winds.
Now the conditions a little less explosive and vigilance probably even more stringent.
