Half seeking compensation – HegnarOnline

The victim in rape cases can get compensation from the State even though rape review has been shelved, points KFV.

– There are still several who report than seeking damages. It is important that aid lawyers informs victims about the possibility of obtaining compensation, even if the criminal case is dismissed. The scheme is used for small, said information officer Ivar Holm by KVF Aftenposten.

KFV has the last five years averaged processed 580 applications for compensation for rape every year. Every year during this period, an average of 1,100 reported rapes.

Holm says that many who contact, hesitates to seek compensation because they are afraid of the police or the perpetrator may believe that they have a financial motive . However, it is so far from anyone who asks for compensation, will have their application approved, says Lisa Arntzen in DIXI resource.

– One must be mentally prepared for that too. For those who have not received compensation, the refusal can be perceived as yet another defeat, she said.

Arntzen however encourage anyone who has first reviewed a rape, to also seek compensation, and it is important that aid lawyers helps and informs its clients in the process, she says. (© NTB)
