Consensus in Parliament on police reform – Avisa Nordland

The government has managed to gather a substantial political majority behind police reform. It probably means land including getting fewer and significantly larger police districts.

Two fundamental changes in the government’s proposal for police reform is the desire for fewer and larger police districts and to the creation of bigger research. The proposal envisages that the current 27 police districts are merged into twelve new districts. Number sheriff’s office and service locations should also be cut significantly without that number is quantified.

It was Sunday morning not clear what the government parties have won approval for, but it is clear that agreement has been reached in Parliament on the so-called neighborhood police reform. Broad agreement

– It is important for us to do what we can to get as wide a plural as possible behind such a large reform, said Justice Minister Anders Anundsen (FRP) NTB when he submitted the reform proposal to parliament in early March.

– We put no number or target, said Anundsen who thinks it must be a thorough police professional job before this is determined.

Anundsen specified that the number of police district is not an exercise in centralization. On the contrary.
