Three fish tourists killed – TV 2

There is little reason to believe that the three are Norwegian citizens, reports JRCC on Twitter.

– The three fatalities flown with Seaking helicopter to Hammerfest for identification. Where police will take over the work, said rescue leader Frode Iversen in JRCC Northern Norway TV 2 Saturday evening.

The boat is rented at a fish camp in Gjesvær, and is 23 feet long. The boat is now transported to Hammerfest where it undergoes technical studies. The police will try to determine if there were any errors in the boat, or if the accident has other causes.

Three men

Police in West Finnmark have now taken over the case.

– We work in Gjesvær determine causation. Will try to find out what has happened. In Hammerfest we are working to identify the three, says operations manager Andreas Vesterhus in West Finnmark Police District.

He tells TV2 that it revolves around three men and that only those in the boat.

– There is no reason to believe that there was more in the boat than the three. There were no reports any missed, says Vesterhus.



Possible German fishermen

A private person alerted the Rescue Coordination Centre in time 7:52 p.m.. The message was that a boat with German fishing tourists had capsized and that there were people in the water.

– We can not confirm that it was German fishing tourists in question, says Iversen.

When rescuers arrived at the scene in time 8:08 p.m. boat floated the boat with the bow up.

Wore survival suit

All three were wearing so called float suits, but not life jackets, said Redningsselskapet facing TV 2. The three were found around the boat, and it is not known how long they have been there.

The autopsy will tell whether they died from drowning or frostbite.

Rescue skate Gjert Wilhelmsen got message from Vardo radio and assisted in rescue efforts. Three crew contributed from skate.

– There was a heavy assignment. It’s always tough for the crew when it is killed people in the water, said Frode Pedersen, Communications Director of Rescue Company.

The EC225 Bristow helicopter, said RS Gjert Wilhelmsen, fishing boat Northern Lights and Coastguard Harstad participating in the operation.

Many foreigners die in Norwegian sea

In the area there will be northerly light breeze and a fair amount of rain. It should however not be high waves.

Earlier today announced TV2 that more and more foreign fishermen killed in Norway. One-fifth of all deaths in yachting in Norway are foreigners. Many have little experience with boat and being amazed at how tough it can be even in good weather along the Norwegian coast.
