Color Line was one of the shipping companies that reacted with joy at the new shipping policy.

But the staff reacted the opposite:

– They have promised and promised that they will secure Norwegian seamen. Now they have sold us out, says the main representatives.

He fears that wages for employees at the Kiel ferries Color Fantasy and Color Magic cut. The two boats can be transferred to the Norwegian International Ship Register (NIS).

Seamen’s Association leader Johnny Hansen says that you now need to look at what opportunities there are to improve the efficiency, allowing members retain jobs and wage levels.

The shipowners cheers

But few hours after the government put forward the strategy, announced offshore vessels and ships in short sea shipping that they are ready for flagging home. After the NTB knowledge, the number of vessels rise already during the afternoon.

A survey NSA has done so far show that eight shipowners forecasts that more than 24 vessels will be flagged home from foreign registries to Norwegian International Ship Register (NIS) when the changes take effect.

Just several ships under Norwegian flag is among the objectives of the government’s new maritime strategy.

– Improved example of our maritime policy works shall You can hardly get. Just hours after the new strategy was out, decided several Norwegian ship owners decided that they want to flag their ships home. It is clear that this is something the industry has been waiting for for many years, says economics minister Monica Mæland in an e-mail to Aftenposten.

– Norway is a major power on the sea. It’s great fun and very important that even more now want to have the Norwegian flag in the stern. It means a lot for Norwegian jobs and the future of Norwegian maritime industry. I hope more will follow. The main initiatives in our new maritime policy is making it easier for shipping companies to pay Norwegian sailors better conditions to sail under the Norwegian flag and greener shipping. Our solutions help to secure the future of Norwegian ships, she continues.

As expected, the government will change the conditions both in the Norwegian Ordinary Ship Register (NOR) and Norwegian International Ship Register (NIS).

For NOR vessels engaged in coasting and foreign trade and Hurtigruten, removed the ceiling for the maximum payment by the employee. Today, shipping companies receive a maximum of 202,000 pounds per sailor in reimbursement for income tax, social security contributions and payroll taxes.

The so-called speed limits for ships in the Norwegian International Ship Register is also softened, so that they can now carry passengers and go route to a foreign port. These measures are controversial.

The employer organizations believe that this will lead to an international competitive alternative under Norwegian flag.

Hansson waiting

Shipowner Herbjørn Hansson has previously said he would flag ship home as soon Siv Jensen was Prime Minister of Norway. She must be content with being finance minister is not enough for the CEO and chairman of Nordic American Tankers.

– My definite impression is that both prime minister and finance minister and this government is sympathetic to the maritime industries and the pleases me very, he says to E24.

But he will not warn now that it flagged home some ships.

– Stability and a benevolent attitude to the business world, it is what is the main thing, says Hansson telephone from France.
