Evacuees hyttegrend after avalanche – Aftenposten

Cabin hamlet located in Hovden in Setesdal. There is a lot of snow in the area.

– snow banks measure up to 5 meters, said operations Ingrid Mæhre College police. Early Friday morning went an avalanche that hit the cabin area by Hovdenut.



Filled with snow

– A notched cabin was hit and destroyed. The windows were inserted and the cabin was filled with snow. There was nobody in the cabin when it was hit. Had it been a cottage of common framework, would enough damage been worse, says Mæhre.

Also another cabin was hit by landslide, but should not have been destroyed.



Evacuated

The police take no chances. They fear that it will go further landslides and has evacuated the cabin area.

– We have evacuated three cottages and gotten all out to safety. No one gets to go in the area before the Norwegian Geotechnical Institute (NGI) has assessed the situation, saying Mæhre.

She says that police received assistance of Bykle municipality to extract people who had snowed in.

– Now when all is taken out, we will close the road with snow to prevent people taking into the area, says Mæhre.
