Brian Vossen did not notice the cracks in the snow until he found himself in the middle of an avalanche.

– This is in the vicinity of a ski area and widely used for freeriding. There are many people in the mountains since it is Saturday, said operations Inge Værøy at Sogn og Fjordane police to TV 2.

Red Cross, dog teams, the a Sea King helicopter and air ambulance participated in the search .

Geologist Odd-Arne Mikkelsen NVE told TV 2 that there is considerable avalanche danger in several locations in southern Norway.

– The avalanche danger is on level 3 of 5. They are as it happens most accidents where people are involved. The reason is that it is often good weather, people will out on tour and you do not always get the classic characters from the snow that it is dangerous: Fresh landslides, rumblings and sounds in the snow, see the snow cracks up, he said.

The danger is great because a persistent weak layer of snow on the bottom has been made over a very short time.

– Because the snow on top is so soft, a skier could affect the weak layer of snow underneath, says Mikkelsen.

It was Sogndal ski Hodlekve reporting into landslides police. First message came clock 24:04.

CEO Sogndal ski Cecilie Grendahl say that they have no direct indications that there would be people in areas where races went.

– We have been in contact with some people who could conceivably be in the area and none of them are missed, says she told TV 2.

Landslides have gone outside backcountry areas that are linked to ski. The areas used by people walking on the summit a march away.

The ski lift that carries skiers up in that area is now closed.
