Prosecutors believe it was 36-year-old who caused the fire in that he strongly intoxicated put a plastic board on the stove and then turned on the hotplate, writes Sarpsborg Arbeiderblad.
It was a neighbor who called the police and alerted the fire bell 08.56 Thursday 16 January last year.
36-year-old was on the spot and tried several times to go into the burning house to find his partner and daughter, told sheriff Svein Midtskog Rakkestad Aftenposten day after the fire.
The two were found by smoke divers from Rakkestad fire brigade inside the apartment and flown to a hospital, where they later died.
– My client takes charge very heavily . This is a very tragic case which characterizes him, says the defendant lawyer, Tone Monclair, Aftenposten.
36-year-old refuses guilty as charged.
The building that burned is a combined housing and property building located on the north side of Rakkestad center along the county road 124, Eidsberg Way, Askim.
