Minister Torbjørn Røe Isaksen will merge in the higher education sector: – Rogaland Avis

Eight university and twenty state colleges have been tasked to assess mergers with other institutions. They have been given until February 1 to propose who they will team up with, according to the class struggle.

Does not exclude coercion
At a conference in Oslo earlier this week underlined Minister that he is willing to use force to implement mergers.

– We have said that the owner of the institutions are the Ministry of Education and I’m not averse to making decisions about structural if needed, said Røe Isaksen.

A review class struggle has made of the alternative merger plans shows that the result of the reform could be nine universities and that number state colleges reduced from twenty to eight.

– This has been an NM in the merger, says Anders Kvernmo Langset, leader of Norwegian student organization.

He believes that quality standards are set is not clear enough, and fear that the process is now a question of who should merge with whom, and not a question of how quality should be better.

UIs not dismissive of fusion
Researcher Bound, which organizes third of the employees in the higher education sector, says Minister is too busy size rather than quality.

UIs has previously stated that they have no plans for a merger enshrined in the current strategic plan for the development of the university, but that they neither are dismissive of a merger with neither Stord-Haugesund or University of Bergen (UiB).

– We are constantly looking to strengthen our profile and looking at solutions that can help us with it. So far we have thought more in terms of cooperation in some areas, to make communities stronger, but it is notified fairly extensive changes in the higher education sector, so we are prepared to follow up setting Minister and will examine what we mean is best for our university to be further developed, the UIs Rector Marit Boyesen previously stated RA.
