Witness: – As smoke from the bus before it ran into Gudvanga Tunnel – Aftenposten

Einar Jordalen lay just behind the bus when it caught fire. He tells bt.no that smoke came from the bus even before it ran into Gudvanga Tunnel.

– I took the bus again in Flengjatunnelen. Then came one part white steam from the bus. I assumed that there was a cooling coil or the like that had broken. Out of the tunnel I observed blårøyk. The bus continued still further into Gudvanga Tunnel. Then I saw flames from the bus, called the fire department and backed out.

Jordalen estimates that he had come 300 to 400 meters into the tunnel when he backed out. He is alarmed that the bus continued into Gudvanga Tunnel.

– The driver must have seen the smoke. Yet continued bus into the tunnel, says Jordalen.

Between the two tunnels he registered that it was a foreign coach.

– The bus had foreign signs, but I know no nationality, he said.

Police Superintendent in Sogn og Fjordane police, Einar Vereide, saying that there is talk of a Swedish bus with Chinese passengers.
