One person died in a fire in apartment building in New York City – Aftenposten

– Both were brought out of the apartment building of the fire department’s smoke divers. One of them is confirmed dead. The others were taken to hospital with severe burns, said operations manager Marianne Brown in Vestoppland police.

The police have not yet any definite identity of the two.

Bygarden that burned, is an old wooden building at the junction Hans Mustad street / Hunnsvegen middle Gjovik center. The fire started around midnight on Sunday and the building was quickly poured on.

The fire department was eventually controlled the flames, but four hours later burned it still good, and especially the smoke settled like a blanket over large parts of the city.

– The building is completely destroyed and the still burning in the roof, but the building has not collapsed. The fire brigade foam adds interior, but it breaks something absolutely terrible. We have received notification of smoke from the fire throughout Gjovik center. We have not implemented any measures because of the smoke – luckily blowing wind so the smoke moves down to the lake, says operational manager.

Questioning

It has not been determined how many people found themselves in the building when the fire started. All residents and people who stayed in the building were evacuated and the fire department’s smoke divers trawled the then building in search of people who had not managed to get out.

One and a half hour after the fire started, working fire service smoke divers still by going through the fire-ravaged building.

It became clear that two people were unaccounted for, and just after two o’clock, it was confirmed that the two were found, one of them had not survived, while the other had suffered severe burns.

– we do not know why and how the fire started. But already now we are about to initiate investigations and conducting witness interviews, says Marianne Brown.

Commune ready

The municipality is ready to help all those who are affected by the fire, and who lost both home and irreplaceable assets.

– But we have not received notification that someone needed help to get shelter in the night. Everyone has probably gotten sojourner by friends, family or acquaintances, says operations manager.

Though the building is completely destroyed, it was clear early on that there was a danger that the fire would spread to other buildings in Gurgaon.

The fire brigade at Gjovik received assistance in extinguishing work from colleagues at Lillehammer, and both eastern and Vestre Toten. Hedmarken fire departments assisted with a lift.
