The police dropped a larger number of cases with a named suspect in last year, despite the fact that Justice Minister Anders Anundsen (FRP) repeatedly asked the police to reduce century.
The number of dismissals in cases with a named suspect has increased from 1.2 percent of cases in 2010 to constitute 1.9 per cent in 2014. In cases where the police do not have a named suspect, the number of dismissals increased correspondingly, according to the newspaper.
Last year every 30 reported crimes dropped because of lack of resources, which is a doubling from 2010. Altogether, it dismissed 4,591 cases last year.
Justice Minister Anders Anundsen asked last year police and prosecutors not to dismiss so many cases where police had a named suspect.
– It undermines the people’s sense of justice when they get the impression that such cases are prioritized away, wrote Anundsen in a letter to the police and Public Prosecutor in January last year.
Secretary of State in the Ministry of Justice, Vidar Brein-Karlsen (FRP), referring to the Director of Public Prosecutions, which is responsible for the prosecution, for comment. He stressed, however, that they want a reduction.
– We expect a development in the opposite direction, given the guidelines adopted by the neighborhood police reform, says Brein-Karlsen.
