Hydro Energy has removed over a quarter of the water from the glacier Harbardsbreen to prevent flooding down Fortunsdalen head of Lustrafjorden.
– According to measurements from Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE) has removed 1.5 million cubic meters of water a total of 6 million cubic meters of water during the past day. We follow a template from 2010 when we had a similar jökulhlaup, and we expect that there will be more water from the glacier the next day, said Johnny Bruheim Hydro Energy in Sogn og Fjordane said.
Less risk
Saturday, Hydro Energy and NVE a new inspection of the glacier by helicopter to see how much water has disappeared from the glacier.
Bruheim believes that it is now going to be good capacity to take water quantities, and that it reduces the risk of flooding. But there is still a risk that the amount of water will be so large that you get an uncontrolled flood of Harbardsbreen and down Fortunsdalen head of Lustrafjorden.
No evacuated
The situation was stable on Friday night . Currently, no residents were evacuated as a result of possible floods and landslides.
