Fired accidental shot inside the police station – TV2

Two different police districts relieved Friday at the veil on the two incidents, which happened just three days apart:

  • Friday 7 August at 13h30 were fired accidentally shot inside the weapon room at one of the service locations in Haugaland and Sunnhordland police.
  • And three days later, at 13 o’clock on Monday 10 August, it was namely fired an accidental shot, an “accidental firing” inside the Gurgaon police.

THIS IS THE CASE

  • All police employees in Norway have since last November had a temporary permit to carry weapons. The justification is the overall terrorist threat.

The family should have abused a young woman over a long time.

None of the places arose injuries.

Still in service

The incident at Gjovik happened nor in connection with active service out among the crowd. However, it is not stated whether there were other people present when the shot was fired.

The case is now reported to the Bureau for further investigation. The person who fired the shot is still in service, and has not been withdrawn weapons approval its:

– We can not comment on details of the incident beyond that, when the case is submitted to the Bureau. But service person is thus still in operational service, following a thorough evaluation of both the situation and the service person’s aptitude and suitability, says Police Chief Martin Welhaven.

– Now we are awaiting the Bureau’s conclusion. We look very seriously at the event and will follow this closely internally, he said.



– Will consider measures

Nor Haugaland and Sunnhordland police will give more details about the incident, and shows that the Bureau and the Police Directorate has been notified about the case.

– As a result of that the case is under investigation by the Norwegian Bureau for the Investigation of Police Affairs, we can not express an opinion closer to the specifics of the case, said Police Chief Steinar Langholm in the press release.

The district will not disclose at which place of service in the police district event occurred. Haugaland and Sunnhordland Police covers 13 municipalities in Rogaland and Hordaland.

Unlike in Vestoppland police, however, concerned that triggered them had withdrawn their weapons approval. To regain this person must consist weapons test again, according to the newspaper Dagbladet.

– When events are clarified through investigation to the Bureau, we will go through the case and consider what measures should be taken to prevent such a thing happening again, according to the press release from the police in Haugesund.

Rated accidental discharge risk

Norwegian police have since last November has been temporarily armed.

After this arming came into force, the two accidental shot episodes the first in both police districts.

A few other events are, however, also known from other police districts. In comparison, according to the Advocate General’s annual report for chastening in the military imposed refs for about 60 accidental discharge incidents last year (10.8 pct. Of 554 chastening).

When permission for the arming of the police first came into place in the fall, the police were aware that just the risk of accidental shot was one of the arguments against arming one had considered.

Thrust with electric shock?
