Police Academy says no to more weapons training – Aftenposten

21. Last November was the temporary arming of the police initiated after the Police Security Service (PST) said police personnel are terrorist targets. Armament is extended until Thursday 20th August.

Yet not PHS any plans to provide students with more weapons training than the 103 required hours they now receive in the course of study the course, said Christopher Carlsen, responsible topic contact for police operative disciplines at the college to the student newspaper Universitas.

– Weapons of procedure is the same in the current situation as before. It’s the same criteria as the basis for using the weapon now as before temporary armament was decided, Carlsen says.

Neither Kent Skibstad, leader of the students’ local branch of the union Norwegian Police Federation, believes there is reason changing education.

– I think education is good enough that we can carry weapons when we have graduated and possibly be working okay service, he said.
