The fire in Gudvanga Tunnel Tuesday is the latest in a series of violent tunnel fires in recent years. But the country’s fire students practice not to extinguish such fires, because the Norwegian Fire School does training facility, according to NRK.
– When we are not able to practice this in realistic forms, it is clear it has something to say for preparedness, says school director Roar Johansen.
He notes that students admittedly receive theoretical training in dealing with such fires, but believes that it is also necessary practical exercise and training. Therefore calls for his money to build a facility where students can train.
Christian Democratic Party justice policy spokesman Kjell Ingolf Ropstad said he will raise the issue for Parliament.
– We have a fire study coming under consideration, and I suppose that it is quite natural that we have to strengthen preparedness, through increasing competence when it comes to tunnel fires, he said.
