Former police chief launches book – calls for greater transparency in the police – NRK

– Teamwork, openness and cooperation is far more constructive than the fear culture. Unfortunately there was not a culture of openness and a democratic spirit that featured senior management of the police when I 1 January 2014 joined the police force after 20 years, says former chief of police in West Finnmark Police, Torbjørn Aas, to Dagbladet.

Tuesday launched book “Police Management”, where Aas including telling about the time police chief. He believes it is apparent that the Norwegian police are not characterized by transparency.

Aas, who is now director of the Finnmark Hospital, cites an example from his fall of 2012 were requested to ask for Standing Committee on Scrutiny and Constitutional Affairs Hearing on Gjørv Commission report after the terrorist attack on 22 July. Then he called the police director Odd Reidar Humlegård not to participate, according to Aas.

– There is in my view problematic when the top management of the Police Directorate does not want the country’s legislature – parliament – should hear a different voice , says Aas.

Humlegårdsvägen says the newspaper that culture of openness is something police are continuously working.

– I want us to an even greater extent, should pause to find the weaknesses of our duties and not least to do something with them, to the benefit of the public, says Humlegårdsvägen.
