To see Gudvanga Tunnel out after the fire – Dagbladet.no

(Dagbladet): Gudvanga Tunnel is closed indefinitely after it began to burn vigorously in a tourist bus a few hundred meters inside the tunnel.

– It is too early to say how long the tunnel is going to be closed, now we are to salvage the wreck out of the tunnel. Only after that can we really examine the tunnel, said department director Svenn Finden in NPRA Sogn og Fjordane.

The tunnel bore clear signs of fire on pictures taken when the press did drop into tunnel Wednesday afternoon.

– There is much fallout from tunnel walls and it is amounts stone around on the ground, says Finden adding that the full extent of the damage is likely be known within the next week.

As a result of the fire, five people sent to Voss hospital.

Four of the five were reported to be severely damaged, but today it became clear that all came from the incident with minor injuries.

– All four are still under observation at Voss hospital, but we expect to be able to write three of them out during the afternoon, said hospital director at Voss hospital Rolf Abrahamsen to avisa-hordaland.no .

30 Chinese tourists were inside the bus when it caught fire, but the bus is from the Swedish company Ellös Buss, based in Gothenburg.

fire was extinguished during Tuesday afternoon.

The last time it burned, the tunnel was closed for six weeks, according to the Public Roads Administration.

In a press release writing that safety and preparedness should have worked better than at the previous fire.

– As far as we know several things worked out better this time than it did in 2013. The red light flashes and booms went down immediately after the Road Traffic Centre was notified about the fire, the signs in the tunnel was activated and the fans, and emergency network, worked well, says Helge regionvegsjef Eidsnes according to the press release.
