Norway is an elongated country with many long tunnels. Still does not teach the country’s firefighters to extinguish underground fires at school.
They have, no rehearsal tunnel to train in.
– When we are not able to practice this in realistic forms , it is clear it has nothing to do with preparedness, says Roar Johansen, director of the Norwegian Fire School to NRK.
If P has a full scale test tunnel at its Security Center in Østfold, where many fire departments exercising regularly.
– There may be practiced on fire in both trains and cars, says information director Jon Berge in If P & C.
But this is far from the fire school who live far north of the country, two hours drive from Narvik.
Many tunnel fires
There have been several deadly tunnel fires in Norway over the last few years.
Tuesday began a tourist bus burning in Gudvanga Tunnel. There are other fire in this tunnel of two years.
Just a month ago crashed a tanker with 16,500 liters of gasoline into a rock wall in Skatestraum Tunnel in Bremanger.
Fire Students are admittedly theoretical teaching for dealing with tunnel fires, but it is far from good enough, says Johansen.
– To deal with such a situation requires practical exercise and training, not only theoretical knowledge, says the director.

requires money
Johansen calls for money to build a facility where students can train.
– From my standpoint, as director at the Norwegian Firefighting, so is the missing funding to build training area , says the director of the fire school.
He is supported by Justice political spokesperson KrF, Kjell Ingolf Ropstad.
– I’ve even through traveling around the country met worried firefighters, not to mention worried leaders in the fire service, which calls for expertise. When we have seen so many fires that it has been in tunnels in the past, so this is something that should have been in place, says Ropstad NRK.
Sak in Parliament
Ropstad will now take up the issue in Parliament.
– We have a fire study that comes up for consideration, and I suppose that it is quite natural that we have to strengthen preparedness, through increasing competency in terms of tunnel fires, he says.
School Director Roar Johansen is particularly concerned about the competence of smaller fire districts.
– They are most vulnerable when it comes to having the resources to retrieve expertise. But also the major cities lack the expertise and experience to handle difficult situations, he said.
Considering measures
Justice Minister Anders Anundsen (FRP) had Tuesday night not possible to ask for an interview but responds to e-mail that he will consider the measures to be implemented.
– There are many tunnels in Norway, and we have many fire departments with much expertise, but we must always look at new ways doing things. It is natural to look into this in the monitoring of fire study, he writes.
