Million Amounts to detect fake base stations – Sunnmørsposten

The money will be used to “build the capacity to detect any use of illegal equipment connected to ecom networks, as false base stations,” the budget.

In addition to the grant of 2 million sets Government 2.5 million to NSM crisis and emergency management, writes Aftenposten.

According to a survey which Aftenposten has previously done, most likely several false base stations, so called IMSI catchers, been in use around the central buildings in Oslo. National Security Authority (NSM) and the Police Security Service (PST) has made its own investigations and stated that the newspaper’s findings most likely was real. But later said PST that it was “natural explanations” behind the measurements and discoveries, and NSM have not wanted to say what their findings went on.

Justice Minister Anders Anundsen has confirmed to Parliament that PST even using fake base stations matters which are under investigation. The service has statutory authority, but the premise is that the supervisory authorities should be notified each time it is set up an IMSI catcher. In what is known, the PST never have come with such a warning.

It is not confirmed who is behind Aftenposten’s findings. It may include talk of foreign states or private actors. (© NTB)
