Jordrasrammede E16 in Vaksdal opened probably Wednesday – Aftenposten

– The opening happens enough earliest clock 17 in the afternoon, says construction manager Bente Bergstø NPRA NTB Wednesday morning.

She informs that the road will be narrowed when it opens because it lacks one railing where soil landslide Tuesday went.

– It will set up dimming and it is excursion weekend, so there may be a queue. People must be patient, says Bergstø.

It was at 13 o’clock on Tuesday that large amounts of water, soil and tree trunks began to race down the mountainside and across the road and railway line in Vaksdal.

Both E16 and the railway line at the site was closed after about 40 meters wide slide went. The railway line reopened on Tuesday evening.

Risk

The site has in the aftermath of the landslide were examined by geologists to determine if there is a risk of new landslides.

– There is a risk even for that there may be landslides, but no greater risk than previously, says Bergstø. She notes that stretch to normal is particularly susceptible to landslides.

– We’re going to open, and then we have to follow the situation closely during cleanup efforts and in the days to come, says construction manager.

The slide was triggered as a result of an avalanche further up the hill, said traffic operator Morten Hansen at the Road Traffic Management Centre said.

On Wednesday morning were ongoing clearing of railway superstructure on the site, and cleanup of the road stood for walk afterwards.

Trains ran into slide

A commuter train from Bergen to Myrdal ran into the slide just before Boge tunnel, but none of the 38 passengers or the two employees on board were injured.

Among the passengers on board was mayor Hans-Erik Ringkjøb (Ap) in Voss.

– We knew something was going on. First came a sharp deceleration, then stood pillars with slops and shit, he told BergensAvisen.

33 billion

The mayor now requires new road and rail to 33 billion.

– The situation on this road and the track is so critical that one does not need more arguments to say this, we will do something, says Ringkjøb NRK.

According to the broadcaster has E16 railway line between Bergen and Voss been closed 40 times in the last 15 years due to landslides, while the slide Tuesday was the 22nd time in 10 years that the Bergen line was closed due to landslides or flooding.

Rail Administration and the Public Roads Administration has made one concept studies for new road and railway between Bergen and Voss to 33 billion. Analysis Company Oslo Economics believes, however, it is not economically profitable to do something with stretch.
