Ap larger than the Conservatives in nine out of ten large cities – Fædrelandsvennen

Since 2011, Right controlled seven of Norway’s ten largest municipalities. A review of local polls that VG has undertaken shows that Labor could be the greatest in six of these if trends hold until the municipal council elections in September.

It comes Oslo, Bergen, Stavanger, Kristiansand, Tromsø, Oslo and Bærum. In addition governing Labor Party from before in Trondheim, Fredrikstad and Sandnes – cities where Labor is still the largest party.

Only in Bærum, where the Conservative Party received a majority at the last local elections in 2011, is the party likely to retain power if trends hold.

In Oslo there have been red majority since 1995, when Gro Harlem Brundtland (Ap) was prime minister and Bjørvika and Opera still container port. Now there is a record close race between the red and blue blocks in the capital.

– I do not think the bad readings due to people in Oslo are very unhappy with the Conservatives in Oslo. It is probably rather politics at play, says Mayor of Oslo Fabian Stang (H). (© NTB)
