Skiers taken by avalanches in Kvamskogen – Bergens Tidende

Man was rescued by a female companion after having been taken by the snowpack.

A man in early 20s was Thursday afternoon taken by an avalanche in a mountain area at Kvamskogen. A woman who was with when landslide struck, immediately alerted the police.

– The man was taken to hospital with what was probably broken bones in one foot. Crews who have been on the site have described exceeded that relatively large, said operations manager Janne Steimler Sætre Western Police District.



– The head was under the snow

When crews from the Red Cross arrived accident, lying man in the snow with injuries to a foot. Snowpack transported the man a piece down the slope.

– His head had been under the snow. The woman who was with, had dug him up when we got to the place, says Fredrik Fossedal avalanche group in Oslo Red Cross.

Fossedal describes the slide as several hundred meters long.

– The was enough very dramatic for those involved. This was a huge avalanche, he said.





Quick response

Avalanche accident occurred in a greater slope colloquially called “Living Wall” , near the mountain Såta above modal, a popular area for skiers.

Crews from the Red Cross made his way to the accident site using snowmobiles, and was in place just after 18:30 pm Thursday night.

– The was promoting 46 minutes after the first distress message came. It’s a response I am very pleased with, says operational manager.

Crews from landslides group to Bergen and Norheimsund Red Cross came out.



Large avalanche danger

The injured the man is a resident of Hordaland. He was awake, but battered and cold when he was taken to hospital.

According to police, it was relatively early clear that no more were taken by the snowpack.

According to Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE) there was considerable danger of avalanches, level 3 by 5, in the area Thursday.

According to the Rescue Coordination Centre in Southern Norway went landslide in the mountains Såta.

Ras Rogaland

Two carriages from Norwegian Rescue Dogs also moved out of the place.

Earlier Thursday went a major landslide in Sauda in Rogaland. Rescuers from Stavanger and Bergen was put into the search for any missing there. By 19 o’clock the rescue operation in the neighboring county canceled. None were taken of the landslide, which was triggered by a skier.
