Man seriously injured in fall accident in submarine – Bergens Tidende

A worker from a Dutch submarine is transported to Haukeland hospital with a serious back injury after falling on the vessel, which was outside Øygarden in Hordaland.

– This is a submarine from the Netherlands participating in a NATO exercise in western Norway. The submarine was in Hjeltefjorden when the accident occurred, said operations Frode Kolltveit West police.

He has not received information about the man’s age or nationality. The man sustained a serious injury in the lower back, but is not life-threatening injured.

The submarine was far out at sea when the police was notified of the accident at 23:15 CET on Tuesday night. Crews were on deck and picked the man up after the fall, and then he was hoisted up in a Sea King helicopter and flown to Haukeland, writes BergensAvisen.

– We do not know anything more about how this happened but we will follow it up on Wednesday morning, said Kolltveit.

the Dutch submarine has already continued northward in connection with the NATO exercise, he informs.
