The police have launched a major rescue operation after 13 Dutchmen on snowshoeing triggered several emergency messages north of Grotli in Skjåk municipality in Oppland. There is bad weather and high avalanche danger in the area.

Seven snowmobile patrols were moving into the area in time 10:45 but they had to turn around and take the sledges due difficult snow conditions.

An hour after a scooter patrol again heading inland to Green Lake, where emergency messages to JRCC was sent. The messages from nødpeilerne came via an American emergency call center in 8 o’clock Friday morning.

HRS contributed rescue helicopter from Ørlandet and Floro.

– But we have not yet succeeded to arrive because of bad weather, said rescue leader Børge Galta by JRCC Southern Norway said.

Air ambulance tried to fly from Dombås, but had to fly back out to refuel because of strong headwinds.

Operations Obstfelder says it has dropped 30 centimeters of snow in the area Thursday night, and avalanche danger is on level 3 – significantly – in the area.

The group has passed between DNT cabins in the mountains since February 21, and they were scheduled to end the trip Saturday.

They are in the area by Danish cabin.

– We have spoken to a contact in the Netherlands and obtained telephone numbers of several of the party, but we have not gotten it. There is poor coverage in the area, says Obstfelder.

Green Lake is located in a mountainous area north of Grotli, close to the border of Møre og Romsdal.
