A NRK employee struck Saturday afternoon alarm when one of the park’s five cheetahs went under the ice in Kristiansand Zoo. Having alerted zookeepers was a rescue initiated.
– Tues. the 2nd dyrpasserne was quickly on the spot after notification. They got hold of a ladder and hit hold ice. Then they got a rope around the cheetah, and ensured that it is slowly but surely made their way ashore, says CEO of the zoo, Per Arnstein Aamot.
– Let’s hope it goes way
Kito, cheetah that went under the ice, came to Kristiansand Zoo in 2014.
– Status is that he is now on land, but he is very cool. A team is still working on the premises, and we now have a veterinary assistant in place. The best thing now is to get him indoors, said Aamot NRK clock 16.
A good half-hour later he informs that the cheetah is safe at home.
– According veterinary assistant has he started to absorb food again, so it’s a good sign. We hope that this goes way, Aamot says.
Will evaluate the safety
The zoo will now investigate whether things could have been done differently.
– it’s a shame that it happens. Zookeepers controlled ice dagmorges, as we do every day. Probably the conditions changed a lot during the day, because we had initially considered the ice safe, Aamot says, adding:
– They’ve done what they could. It was quite a mess.
Aamot emphasizes that the park will go through their routines.
– It may be necessary to keep the animals in the future.
