LATEST: E16 is now opened to traffic, police watch in 1145.
The fatal accident happened on Wednesday morning. The road was closed at 0839.
It soon became clear that there was talk about a very serious accident.
– A passenger car has run in the rock wall of the tunnel. There is major damage to the vehicle and in the tunnel, said police operations manager Morten Kronen.
Time 0908 confirmed the police that a person had died in the accident. There was no one else in the car when the accident happened.
The time 1120 police that the deceased is a 45 year old man, resident in Voss.
Long queues
There are long queues in the area after the accident. A BA reader says that he stands just outside the tunnel on the east side.

Charged stretch
The main road between east and west is a charged stretch. Over the past 15 years there have been over 260 landslides on E16 between Bergen and Voss. Around 40 times this has meant that all traffic has been stopped.
In May blocked a over hundred meter wide landslide both road and rail line. A train ran into the slide, but the passengers came from it without injury.
