1300 resisters considered war decoration – Aftenposten

For three years, three people on behalf of the Government sought by Norwegian heroes from WW2. As because of lack of knowledge, secrecy or political conditions have not received the recognition they deserve.

They have applied to the National Archives, been overseas in Stockholm, London and Washington, in pursuit of forgotten heroes.

Without finding someone qualified.

they, and the government has concluded that the task is insurmountable without assistance from the Norwegian people.

Therefore, they ask everyone, absolutely everyone, who had to sit on information about soldiers, officers, resistance fighters or civilians who “made an extraordinary contribution in the fight against the axis powers during World War 2,” and that is not decorated report.

the deadline is June 1, 2015.

These are the reasons that people are excluded from honors:

1) From the 1960s and beyond leave Norway over the practice of handing out decorations for extraordinary effort in connection with warfare.

2) More stories about individuals from WW2, but especially captain Eiliv Austlid, which in 2009 received the War Cross with sword postmortem led to a push to resume practice. Auslid sacrificed his life as he helped salvage the government through the German lines at Dombås in 1940.

3) Not only individuals are highlighted in recent years. In 2013 got Pelle-group a memorial at Aker Brygge, after sabotage operation with lowering of several vessels at Aker mek. Workshop in November 1944.

4) That Norwegian soldiers were out in international operations and performed feats at the height of actions during WW2 strengthened requirement further.

5) In 2009 the government decided to make a historical review of the practice of decorating by efforts after WW2. It was created a War Decoration Project to identify groups or individuals who, because of ignorance, secrecy or political conditions have not been able to receive deserved recognition.

6) in 2015, the last time the witnesses about to be gone. It becomes increasingly difficult to document extraordinary efforts, through written documentation and witnesses.

These can get rewards:

those who qualify can get awarded the prestigious military honors as the War Cross with sword, St. Olav’s medal with Oak Branch and War medal, whether they are alive or postmortem. Civilian may be awarded these, who have made a “a particularly commendable effort” support for military forces or “in carrying out missions with military character”.
