Tax Director: Have tax returns become too easy? – Aftenposten

Tax Director Hans Christian Holte pointed out that some of those who have not checked their tax returns may have missed deductions they are entitled to.

This year was the first time that 3.4 million Norwegian taxpayers just got a digital copy of your tax return and did not have to do anything for that it should be regarded as legally delivered.

30 percent more than in 2014 filed their tax returns electronically and tax administration saved six million dollars in postage and paper.

Holte says that tax authorities now analyze the data and already has gained much new knowledge about what he calls “people’s tax behavior” and will use it in its further work.

Tax Director concludes in his speech extent that simplification has not gone too far:

“We see nothing so far to suggest that simplification has made it so simple that pre-completion and delivery exemption of tax return leads to a weakening of taxpayer rights.

On the contrary, has good basic data and good information rather strengthened the rights of taxpayers, “he writes.
