Kjevik was closed due to explosion of flashover barn – Fædrelandsvennen

KRISTIANSAND At 18.30 o’clock came the dramatic fire message from Borgenveien into. 50 minutes later it was no longer explosion or danger for fire to spread.

Powerful smoke DEVELOPMENT

– When we arrived at Hamresanden heading for address, we saw a huge dark cloud. We called in to ask for reinforcements from Kjevik says emergency manager Øvyind Erland in Kristiansand region fire and rescue, to Fædrelandsvennen.

– It burned almost as gasoline, says Erland.

Smelled burned

The owner of the house, Sigurd Tvedt, was the first who discovered the fire.

– When I was outside the house, I knew that it smelled burned, but I did not think much of it. Only when I got into the barn, I saw that it burned ceiling and lamps. It was full of fire, says Tvedt.

Tvedt was trying to save some artifacts from the fire, but had to give up. He was later sent to the emergency room for the check, along with his wife.



Had shut Kjevik

– What I have received notice is that the fire had consequences for a couple Widerøe departures, Bergen and Copenhagen. It was not long period the airport was closed, said airport manager at Avinor, Thomas Jensen, to Fædrelandsvennen.

He said that Kristiansand Airport Kjevik also has assisted with the fire engines to the fire extinguishing work.

– We has plenty of materials and people, says Jensen, confirming that required firefighters to keep the airport in operation is still on the airport premises.

According Agder police could traffic on Highway 42, located 125 meters from the barn , pass as normal.

Explosion until the fire department arrived

Police informed at 19 that a propane tank at five kilograms should have exploded before the fire brigade and police arrived.

It was windy early on the spot, and it caught fire in the grass behind the barn. A house located 400-500 meters away from the place stood a while in danger of catching fire.

There were large amount of smoke on the premises, and the fire could be seen from a distance.

– Fortunate with the wind

Police Response Team Co Frank Salvesen said to Fædrelandsvennen that they do not know how the fire started.

– I have no information on how the fire started. We have been lucky with the wind direction. If the wind had blown against the house, things could have gone much worse, says Salvesen.

It is no longer a risk of proliferation.

Part of the barn should have been used that garage. Several cars and a tractor have been damaged. The tractor is completely burnt. The barn is completely destroyed.

Owner Tvedt are incredibly pleased that detached were not affected by the fire. He is even born and raised in the house and has lived there for nearly 25 years. He says the barn was used as a warehouse.

– Much was old and we’ve lost some things, but we think not so much now. Now we need to figure out what we should do next, he said.
