Grand Café closes its doors after years of deficit – NRK

Grand Café on Karl Johans Gate closed down after years of large deficits.

The employees were informed of the decision at an open meeting Tuesday, writes Dagens Næringsliv.

55 employees affected.

The restaurant has always been regulars restaurant among other Henrik Ibsen and Edvard Munch.

– It is sad to have to close. We have turned every stone to find a sustainable solution for continued operations, but the losses are so large that we can not count on us to profitability with some of the proposals we have taken forward together with employees and their representatives, writes vice president Helge Krogsbøl in Pandox AB, which operates the Grand Hotel in a press release.

Pandox took over the operation of Grand Hotel Rica 1 March this year, after the hotel had lost money for years. The figures for 2014 show a loss of about 20 million, and around 8 million of the deficit stems from the operation of Grand Cafe.
