Man injured when “kohlrabi canon” exploded – NRK

Late Saturday night the police got in Helgeland in the somewhat special message that a man was injured after a “kohlrabi canon” exploded.

– It should have been a good pressure in the explosion. He was lifted into the air before he fell down on the ground again. He was conscious but had a lot of pain in the arm, said operations manager Ann Line Finanger VG.

The police were on the spot and made investigations after the accident.

On Sunday morning informs Helgelandssykehuset that the man in their 50s were more likely to fracture injuries after the explosion.

– He still gets treatment at the intensive care unit, but his situation is stable, says Helgeland Hospital NRK.

– New police

The gun was made from a 200-liter hot water tank filled with gas. Police have no idea how this works.

– This is new for us. I’ve only heard of spud gun, so it’s possible this works the same way, says Finanger.

A spud gun is made of plastic, with a combustion chamber using starting fluid or other flammable gas. The gas ignited, and the explosion that occurs makes the projectile, a potato, flying out of the tube.

On Sunday morning, police said on Helgeland that it is currently created a undersøkelsessak to find out what happened. Man in 50s can possibly expect a punishment after the event.

– You may be a penal sanction, if it turns out that he has acted recklessly and exposed both themselves and others danger, said police lawyer Monica Notland NRK.

Both Penal Code § 352 and the Fire and Explosion Act § 5 can be the basis for an eventual punishment, according to the police prosecutor.

– These paragraphs about careless use, storage and handling of explosives. And the individual’s obligation to limit the harmful effects of such an explosion, explains Notland.
