Found empty boat with the engine running – NRK

JRCC reported that a smaller boat with the engine running and year out was found drifting by New Hellesund in Søgne shortly after at 8:00 Sunday.

Soon after, at 12.00 informs JRCC that the search has ended.

– The area is thoroughly searched. There is a high probability that we’d found the person on one or more persons had fallen overboard, says duty rescue leader Bjorn Jarle AAMLID by JRCC southern Norway.

Greater action

A SeaKing helicopter, rescue boats in Mandal and Kristiansand, one Red Korsbåt, a boat from the Coast Guard ship “Nornen” and firefighters from Søgne searched in the area.

In addition participated in several private boats. JRCC urged all boats in the area to participate in the search.

– When we receive notice of a boat engaged in the fjord with the engine running, we are on a roll, for when we have reason to believing that someone has landed overboard, says AAMLID.

Last spent Thursday

The boat was Sunday morning quickly located and added to the land by Årosveden. We are talking about an old, open lifeboat aluminum. As early as it was suspected that the boat was stolen from Hollen.

– We’re working to obtain ownership of the boat to hear who might have used it and whether it possibly can be stolen, said operations manager Jon Kvitnes College police told NRK on Sunday morning.

A skipper in Redningsselskapet says to NRK that they think the boat is stolen and abandoned on purpose.

The boat was found drifting in the fjord in Søgne in Vest-Agder. The search was concentrated on the area Hollen – New Hellesund – Herøya, said JRCC.
