Five concessions from the terrorist suspect in court – Aftenposten

For the first time acknowledged the terrorist suspect 24-year-old that he has posed with guns on Facebook and met other IS-accused in Syria. But he still claims he was involved in relief work.

These are the most important conclusions from the inquiry:

1. Posing with guns on Facebook

PST have analyzed an extensive material from the defendant’s profile on Facebook. Prosecutors believe the content will be key evidence in the trial. 24-year-old admitted that it is he who has posted pictures and used the profile to communicate with others in Syria.

– ie it is a picture of a person who is posing with guns. The face is masked by a scarf. Who is this?

– It’s me. I have not said it before, because I was scared and anxious how it would appear. But I say it now because I have more confidence in the court than PST, said 24-year-old.

The man points out that there is another weapon culture in Syria than in Norway, and that therefore it was not unnatural for him to pose with a child in violation clothes.

The defendant claims that he has made some of the most radical pictures because he was tried enlisted as informants by PST. According to 24-year-old would PST that he would emerge as radical to elicit people “maliciously that would harm the country.”

24-year-old confirmed that people associated with IS on some of the pictures from the time he stayed in Syria.

2. Had contact with the Prophet’s ummah

When asked by prosecutor called 24-year-old for a liberal Muslim. But he admits that he had contact with members of the radical Islamist group Prophetic Ummah and reviewing the group’s leader, Ubaydullah Hussain, as a friend.

– I would not say that I was a member, but I committed myself. In my opinion consisted group of people with strong opinions. I was a little agree something of what they stood for. 3. Had armed guard missions

During his free explanation said 24-year-old that he worked in an ambulance to transport medicines, blankets and damaged. But under the prosecutor’s interrogation revealed that the defendant had also armed guard mission on the border crossing between Syria and Turkey. Neither this, he told police during interrogation.

– I was worried that it could be considered an act of war. Therefore I failed to mention it in the interview.

24-year-old has always maintained that he traveled to Syria to conduct humanitarian work. Standing guard was also a way to protect the Syrian people on, he thought. He obtained a weapon when he came to Syria, was to defend themselves against robbers, he explained.

– I got myself weapons, a Russian AK, to protect myself, said 24- old, who said that he tested the weapon in an uninhabited area in Syria.

4. Had contact with IS-members

24-year-old confirmed he traveled to Syria along with a peer buddy from Fredrikstad. According PST fought buddy for IS before he was killed in a bomb attack last year. The two parted company when they first came to Syria, but made contact later in the autumn. The defendant confirmed that Norwegian-Chechens after some time joined the IS.

24-year-old also explained that he had contact with another man from Fredrikstad who considered coming to Syria.

– He wanted to know how it was in Syria. I replied, but told him to think carefully before he left. When he later decided to go down, I helped him over the border crossing. As a friend.

Today the now 23 years old man having an operational role in the IS as a warrior in armed struggle.



5. Would send clothes and shoes to the IS members

In addition to being prosecuted for terrorist planning by Penal Code § 147a, the 24-year-old accused of providing financial and material support to the IS after he came home to Norway.

According to the indictment would 24-year-old returning to Syria just before he was arrested in December last year. This denies the defendant. But he admits to having had contact with the two 23 year olds from Fredrikstad, as well as a Norwegian convert from Moss to have fought for IS since 2013.

– I wanted to know what happened. How they felt. It was natural to ask my friends about what they were doing. I said I could help with clothing, money and shoes, but it was not terror support.

– These individuals are associated with IS. Did you think that by sending clothes and money helped support a terrorist organization?

– No. I thought at that time that I wanted to help my friends.



Ubaydullah Hussein will testify

Aftenposten wrote that at least 80 people have traveled from Norway to Syria and Iraq to join IS and other terrorist organizations.

18 people have been charged, prosecuted or convicted for terrorist provisions. One of them, 24-year-old father, to testify in court Tuesday. It should also Ubaydullah Hussain, as Monday was acquitted of inciting terrorist.
