Criticizes security

Veterinary NOAH Siri Martinsen, mentioned earlier Friday called this “a serious offense” when she spoke with Dagbladet, but also focuses on security in the park. A security she feels could have been better – at least considering that they assessed the Russian fasteners ongoing close as a risk.

– There is certainly reason to question when it appears that they knew it was a risk. One thing is that they have tried to stop the event. That’s good, but you are still responsible for ensuring the animals. It is worrying that it was possible to carry out these actions, she said.

The general manager of Atlanterhavsparken, Tor Erik Standal, tells Dagbladet that the first and foremost priority is to ensure the animals from predators . The fact that someone would break in and steal animals was nothing he had seen as a possibility even.

– We have secured our animals from predators – where we have a real good system. But that someone would steal animals so, it never occurred to us whatsoever. It came as a shock, says Standal.

Standal elaborate further around which safety park has about penguins.

– We have hedged against birds of prey as it is an area of much eagles, ravens and gulls. We have also secured the otter and mink with electric fences. But we do live by guests get a close and good view of the animals, so when we can not shut them out completely. It would be contradictory, he says

Indicted

Four people born in 1996 have been charged by police in Ålesund after three penguin chicks and one egg was stolen from Atlanterhavsparken yesterday, confirms police prosecutor Yngve Skovly Dagbladet .

– They are charged under the Animal Welfare Act § 14 b: to “Abandon animals in a helpless condition,” says Skovly Dagbladet.

The four were arrested and taken into questioning, before being released Friday.

Acknowledge having been there

Lawyer Axel Lange has been appointed as defense counsel for one of those indicted in the case. He says that his client, a man of 18 years, acknowledges having been in the area, but he did not acknowledge having taken some penguins.

– He does not know why the penguins were taken, or who have taken them. He feels put in a real squeeze, says Lange told Dagbladet.

He says that his client saw the arrest as dramatically.

– He’s not hung out with name but he was taken with a large police presence early this morning. Then he had a few hours in advance offered to come in to testify, so he feels a little bad treated, he said.

The case has inspired medruss of the four, who have easy for penguins in the area, and readers and elected officials, and if the case comes to court, they can wait out punishment.

– They are photographed and can look forward to a looooooong free period by as Aleve. Idiots who have ruined their lives in this way, wrote Harald T. Nesvik, parliamentary representative from FRP, on Facebook Friday.
