Large police presence at Oslo District Court – Dagbladet.no

(Dagbladet): After more than two years in Pakistan came Islamist Arfan Bhatti (37) to Norway on Wednesday afternoon. He was immediately arrested by the police at Gardermoen, on the basis of an arrest request of 2013.

Bhatti is portrayed for custody in Oslo District Court today and remand hearing is currently underway.

Police believe the dreaded Islamist shall evade penalties, and therefore wants to portray him for custody.

Ubaydullah Hussein present

There are police guards and metal detectors at the courtroom, in addition to large police resources in readiness outside the courthouse. There are also many civilian police officers present inside the courtroom.

The time 15.15 came Bhatti into the courtroom. He is cropped and has a shorter beard than previously. Bhatti has stated that he does not want to be photographed inside the courtroom.

The former head of the Prophet Ummah Ubaydullah Hussain, is also present in the Oslo District Court to show their support for Bhatti. He brings with him a private television team and two people who cover themselves when photographers take pictures of them.

Arrest Petitions

Bhatti was Wednesday arrested on the basis of an arrest petition that was issued in February 2013, when 37-year-old did not attend for questioning in a family assault case he was charged in 2012. Bhatti was imprisoned by intelligence police in Pakistan when he would have faced for questioning.

Lawyer John Christian Elden, who has been Arfan Bhatti solid defender in over 20 years, responding to police portrays Bhatti for custody.

– To invoke evasion for a charge from 2012 is mildly sought, said Elden Dagbladet on Thursday morning.

Justice Minister Anders Anundsen (FRP) fear that Bhatti and other returnees extremists can help to make the radical environment in Norway more extreme.

– It is obvious that people who have been out and that can act as inspirational in Norway, will help to make the situation even more challenging, says Justice Minister Aftenposten.

Jailed Pakistan

Just before Christmas in 2012 traveled Arfan Bhatti from Norway. In January 2013, he was reported missing. First summer of 2013 it was established by the Norwegian authorities that the Norwegian citizen sat arrested in Pakistan and that intelligence and terrorist police in Pakistan had arrested him.

Bhatti was released from prison in late August last year.

– In last week received a letter from Bhatti interior ministry in Pakistan, where he was advised that he was taken off the terrorist list to Pakistani and US authorities. And that he could freely travel by plane, said lawyer John Christian Elden Dagbladet yesterday evening.
