Municipal Taxes: Highlands on top, Årdal on bottom – NRK

If you live in Høylandet in Trøndelag you have to pay 19,951 kroner in municipal taxes. Do you live however in Årdal in Sogn og Fjordane, the fees are almost 14,000 crowns less.

In the highlands municipality must pay 7,000 more than the national average of 12.780 million. The municipality has only 1,250 inhabitants, and it is part of the reason that the fees are so high, according to the mayor Hege Nordheim Viken.

Årdal in Sogn og Fjordane has the most affordable fees by 6058 million, closely followed by Trondheim where property owners pay 6413 crowns.

CFO in Trondheim, Olaf Loberg says that municipal taxes follows the full cost principle.

– This means that the fees should reflect the real costs municipality. When Trondheim municipality has such low fees, it means that we do effectively in this area, said Loberg NRK.

– Cooperation pays

Trondheim has lower fees than surrounding communities. At the neighboring municipality Klæbu has decided to merge Trondheim, will have positive consequences for citizens in Klæbu, according Loberg.

Cathrine Fiskum live in Høylandet and has three children in kindergarten and school age. She agrees that a good deal justifies the high taxes.

– The municipality supplies and everything is top notch. We have also a wonderful school and we have cheap kindergarten, says Fiskum Trønder-Avisa.
