Rolls-Royce delivers design and equipment for quick routes – Sunnmørsposten

The contract follows after Hurtigruten and Kleven recently signed an agreement for the construction of what is referred to as two expedition ships.

On Monday morning it was announced that Rolls-Royce will deliver both design and major equipment package for about 25 million British pounds, or about 280 million.

Previously it was known that Rolls-Royce will deliver design. Now it is clear that they also will supply ships bridge. This means more work for Rolls-Royce Marine Automation on Longva Haram.

In addition, Rolls-Royce in Norway deliver some equipment that Hurtigruten not want be specified in more detail yet.

– There are many of our departments that have been, are and will be involved in the new express routes, says Anette Bonnevie Wollebæk, communications director at Rolls-Royce Marine in western Norway.

Fish, wind and cruise

the contract shows that Rolls-Royce could succeed in other segments than offshore.

– We have succeeded in fish and the wind, and now also on the cruise. We use our technology and expertise to position ourselves in these markets, says Gjerde, but adds that it is not easy to compensate for having fewer assignments for the offshore market.

Ensures maneuverability

– This contract is a testament to the overall power of innovation Norway’s maritime industry and tourism. Together we are helping to secure the steering speed as coastal Norway needs, says Daniel Skjeldam, CEO of Hurtigruten, in a press release.

– Hurtigruten and Kleven has agreed to build ships that will set a new standard in the market, and now it is our mission and contribute to innovative technology, design and equipment. I am confident that these vessels will bring Hurtigrutens proud traditions into an equally proud new future, responding Helge Gjerde, director of Rolls-Royce.

Expedition Ship

The new ships will in primarily head towards international waters.

– We see great great potential in other parts of the world, the Arctic and Antarctic, said Skjeldam recently.

the agreement between Hurtigruten and Kleven there is an option to build two additional ships.

In addition to the ship design with “wave piercing” -baugen, Rolls-Royce will deliver what they refer to as an integrated system solution that incorporates advanced technology and marine equipment.
