- Probably chased the sidelines of bears with cubs – Trønder-Avisa

Sandnes driver summer farming from Lurukroken in Lurudalen – and was notified by the Rail about the incident on Saturday morning. After counting it turned out that there were 21 killed sheep after the collision of the train.

– It’s tragic. We have had collisions of sheep virtually every year, also a couple of neighbors. But there has never been such a large number of killed sheep at one time, says Sandnes.

So bear and kids

collision happened just north of Luru station. Sandnes operates fairly large with sheep, and dropped 959 grazing animals this season.

– I feel fairly sure there are bears in the area who have hunted the animals on board. As recently as yesterday we saw a mother bear and two cubs in the area. What appears to have happened is that the sheep are driven westwards in feeding grounds – and then crossing the line, says Sandnes.

That’s why the family been doing a lot of sheep grazed, and had extra attention in recent days .

Project on time

Saueiere in Snåsa are not the only ones affected by collisions of trains. Also herders have annual losses. In addition, also a large number of moose hit.

– The fence along the railway in Lurudalen is not as it once was, and tumbled down on several stretches, but there are large areas that will ensue, says Sandnes.

at the same time addressed the issues. National Rail and NINA (Norwegian Institute for Nature Research) has a pilot project underway, with measures to prevent collisions of grazing animals and wild in Lurudalen.

Chased away the rest

Sandnes went Saturday morning to the site to take care of the dead animals. Rail Administration has stated that the other sheep who were on board are chased away.

Loss of grazing animals is nothing new, but so many togdrepte sheep was unexpected.

– We have had bjørnerov this year as well, and expects losses but this was intense for us, says Jan Ivar Sandnes.
