The next week it may be slightly increasing snowmelt in the mountains of southern Norway and slightly increasing water level in rivers. Some places high in the mountains, there are now more snow than it was a month ago, while in areas lower than 1,000 meters above sea level has melted some snow over the past week, according to NVE.
There is a high probability for large snøsmelteflom in several rivers in western Norway from north of Stavanger to Rauma in Romsdal. By “big snøsmelteflom” means a flood qualifying orange alert level or higher. Orange level is the third highest of four levels.
At the same industry also soaring UV radiation to the mountains. On Thursday, it measured a radiation of 10.1 on the UV index. It is never measured such high values since measurement began in 1996. Values of 11 and above are classified as “extreme.”
– This is heady stuff. Extra protection is absolutely necessary. Use sunscreen and apply often, says Scientist Bjørn Johnsen at the Norwegian Radiation Protection Authority to yr.no.
Johnsen expects that the powerful radiation may continue for another two weeks, assuming there is snow on the ground. (© NTB)
