The expectations for future sales and earnings have not been so low since the financial crisis was at its darkest in 2008 and 2009, the NHO’s economy barometer.
The long announced slowdown in the Norwegian economy is now evident, not least because of falling investment in the oil and gas industry, writes NHO report submitted Wednesday.
– This is dramatic. What we see through economic barometer is that unemployment seems to increase. For the first quarter of 2016, we see up to 140,000 unemployed, says NHO president Tore Ulstein NRK.
The latest labor force survey by Statistics Norway submitted on 28 May, shows that in March were 114,000 unemployed in this country. This corresponds to 4.1 percent of the workforce.
2.639 million people were employed, representing 68 percent of the population. NHO estimates show that unemployment is going to increase by up to 22,000 people in the coming months.
Ulstein believes the government should put forward an action plan.
– We fear that unemployment rises even more, and that the increased unemployment will settle. So it is important now that the government shows vigor, so that we can halt the increase in unemployment as much as possible, says Ulstein. (© NTB)
