The crew of the wrecked fishing boat found in liferaft – Fædrelandsvennen

BÅTSFJORD / OSLO : The five were found in time 6:03, informs JRCC Northern Norway (HRS). It happened after a Sea King helicopter about 20 minutes before he had observed two liferafts in the area where it was initiated a search for the fishermen.

– One of the rafts were found to contain the five people . They were picked up by helicopter, said rescue leader Frode Iversen said.

All five are in good shape.



Took the water

It was at 3.30 that fishing boat Østbanken notified to coast radio in Vardo that they took in water. The crew was worried if they were able to get away from the water, said HRS.

– Time 3.35 sent a boat mayday signal and went down, said HRS.

The position of boat was then around 60 nautical mil northeast of Båtsfjord in eastern Finnmark.

Rescue

A comprehensive rescue were initiated from fish boat position, lighted rescue Tore Hongset said.

Seven boats and two helicopters participated in the search for the fishermen. From Banak was a Sea King helicopter sent while a helicopter with thermal imaging camera flew from Hammerfest. In addition participated lifeboat Reidar von Koss from Båtsfjord, three coastguard vessels and three civilian vessels.



Registered in Northern Norway

The man who called and warned that the fishing boat theirs was about to sink, was Norwegian.

The fishing vessel, which is at 75 feet, is registered in Northern Norway.
