– Oslo’s 50,000 employees have less freedom of expression than others. They are free to express their opinion on various issues, including politics, religion and history, says Røsland said.

He stressed that the Municipality of Oslo as an employer expects employees to distinguish between work and private life. Røsland presupposes that Hermansen relate to the curriculum, and that he in teaching put aside their private views about immigration.

– The the school is solely responsible for ensuring that teachers do what is expected of them, says Røsland.

He understands that Hermansen students react negatively to his meaning and that some may feel offended, but adds that issue is not unknown to Oslo.

Rector Kjell Ove Hauge at Kuben Vocational Arena has not answered NTB inquiries about the case. School is Oslo’s largest high school with nearly 1,400 students.
