The first mission lasts six years and means that Norwegian soldiers are part of the Nordic Battle Group, chaired by Sweden. The most important Norwegian contribution here will be escorting a logistics battalion, writes the Defense Ministry in a statement.

In addition sets Norway with three staff officers, as well as experts in maintenance and logistics, military and transport, with about 50 people .

Specifically step

– Norway has long supported the EU security and defense policy. EU Task Force is a concrete step to improve the European capability to react quickly if a crisis situation arises, says Defence Ine Eriksen Søreide (H). Also in 2008 and in 2011 participated Norway in a Nordic battle.

NATO preparedness consists of several elements. In addition to Telemark Battalion sets Norway with a frigate, kystkorvetter and mine clearance vessels.

Short notice

– In today’s security situation adds NATO great importance to have forces can set where needed at short notice. Norway this year will be heavily involved in this force, says Søreide.

NATO has also approved the establishment of a new strength, which can react even faster than the NRF, the so-called Very High Readiness Joint Task Force ( VJTF).

– We are now working on plans and framework for the new force, but already in 2015 the Telemark Battalion, along with German and Dutch departments test out parts of the new concept, says defense minister.
