A comprehensive rescue was initiated to rescue five fishermen after a fishing boat has foundered tolv mil north of Båtsfjord night of Friday, reports said.
Dagbladet just before six o’clock Friday morning reported that a SeaKing helicopter had observed two liferafts in the sea.
– They are investigating right now if there are people on board. We sit and wait for feedback on what they find, said duty rescue Tore Hongset by JRCC Northern Norway.
Ten minutes later get Dagbladet reported that the five fishermen are in good condition aboard a SeaKing Helicopter.
On its website writes JRCC that it was the Norwegian fishing boat “Østbanken” which took in water and sank at 5:35. today.
Notified although shipwreck
The fishermen gave even know that they were in trouble.
– There is a fishing vessel that is thought has gone down 60 nautical mil Batsfjord. We were told that it was about to sink at 03.30, said rescue leader Kjell Johansen Dagbladet.
He stated at five o’clock Friday morning that they had contact with the ship anymore.
– We act out of a worst case scenario. We have two rescue helicopters, one rescue boat, two foreign vessels and three coastguard vessels underway, he said.
– Complicated action
It was bad weather in the area with high winds.
– It is critical if people have gone overboard. It is winter and dark, and very demanding conditions. We must prepare ourselves that this is a complicated rescue, said Johansen.
The fishing vessel which sank on 75 feet.
Rescue Society said on Twitter that they are heading with lifeboat Reidar von Koss. They also wrote that it blows easterly breeze on site.
